In addition to composer Elio Mariani, Victor and Gramophone disc labels also list the Catholic priest, journalist, and writer Don Antonio Rossaro, who conceived of the idea to commemorate a bell that honors fallen heroes of war. The website, Fondazione Campana dei Caduti, states that after World War I many nations contributed bronze from their weapons for the casting of the bell. In May 1925, the bell was baptized with the name, “Maria Dolens,” and placed on the Malipiero Bastion of Rovereto Castle. The bell is rung every evening to remember the sacrifice of fallen war heroes of every nation and to remind the living to war no more. |
