From ADP editors: Ernest Thompson Seton was an author, artist, naturalist, conservationist, lecturer, and co-founder of the "scouting" movement in America. He is largely responsible for the touches of Native American culture seen in the Boy Scouts program. Victor ledgers note "league talk" on Seton's trial recording, and later that he is the "Chief of the Woodcraft League." This refers to the League of Woodcraft Indians (later the Woodcraft League of America), a youth program founded by Seton in 1902 which was similar to the future Boy Scouts of America program. After having his front gate vandalized a few too many times by local youth, Seton invited them to his property for a weekend to hear stories about Native Americans and nature. Thus, the first Woodcraft tribe was born. Seton occasionally used the name "Black Wolf" for his Native American projects. The program was merged with the Boy Scouts for a time before Seton had a falling-out with another founder. Source: The Ernest Thompson Seton Institute. http://www.etsetoninstitute.org/
