Frank Pixley
Frank S. Pixley (November 21, 1865 or 1867 - 1919) was an educator, newspaper editor, playwright and lyricist. He partnered with Gustav Luders, Pixley writing words and lyrics and Luders the music for several shows. American Musical Productions describes the team as Pixley and Luders became the Rodgers and Hammerstein of the 1900s. He was born in Richfield, Ohio. He attended Richfield High School. Maria Louise Pixley was his mother. He graduated from Buchtel College in 1890 and Ohio State University. He edited the Chicago Times from 1899 to 1902. He wrote several plays including The Prince of Pilsen with music by Gustav Luders. It was adapted into the 1926 film The Prince of Pilsen. He married Isabel MacRoy (died 1929) who bequeathed $50,000 to Buchtel College in honor of her husband. |
